Community Guidelines

Effective May 2026 · Commons App Inc.
Commons exists to give real communities a real home. We believe in genuine connection, real names, and spaces where people actually feel like they belong. These guidelines exist to protect that. They apply to every person, every community, and every interaction on Commons — members and builders alike.

By using Commons, you agree to these guidelines. If you build a community on Commons, you're also responsible for ensuring your members understand and follow them.
Be who you are

Commons is built on real names and real identity. Don't create fake accounts, impersonate other people, or misrepresent who you are. Your name on Commons should be the name you'd introduce yourself with in real life.

Not allowed
Creating accounts under false names or personas
Impersonating another person, public figure, or organization
Creating multiple accounts to evade a ban or restriction
Treat everyone with respect

Disagreement is fine. Disrespect is not. Commons is for real human connection — harassment, hate speech, and targeted abuse have no place here, regardless of who it's directed at.

Not allowed
Harassment, threats, or intimidation of any person
Hate speech based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or nationality
Deliberate targeting, bullying, or coordinated attacks on individuals
Sharing private information about someone without their consent
Keep it safe

Commons is for adults. We do not allow content that endangers children, promotes self-harm, or facilitates illegal activity. If you see something that puts someone at risk, report it immediately.

Not allowed
Any sexual content involving minors — ever, under any circumstances
Content that promotes, glorifies, or facilitates self-harm or suicide
Content that facilitates illegal activity, including fraud, trafficking, or the sale of illegal goods
Sharing explicit adult content in public or mixed communities
No spam or misleading content

Communities are built on trust. Don't use Commons to spread misinformation, spam members, or run scams. Promotion is fine in the right context — predatory behavior is not.

Not allowed
Sending unsolicited promotional messages or spam
Deliberately spreading false or misleading information
Running scams, pyramid schemes, or deceptive promotions
Using bots or automated tools to interact with Commons
Respect intellectual property

Only share content you have the right to share. Don't post copyrighted material without permission, and don't use Commons to infringe on the intellectual property of others.

Not allowed
Posting copyrighted content without authorization
Using Commons to facilitate intellectual property theft
Community builders: you set the tone

When you build a community on Commons, you take on responsibility for the space you create. That means setting clear expectations for your members, moderating your community actively, and removing content or members that violate these guidelines.

Commons may remove communities that consistently violate these guidelines or that are being used to harm others — even if the builder wasn't directly involved.

What we expect from builders
Set and communicate clear community rules to your members
Actively moderate your community — don't leave violations unaddressed
Use Commons' tools to remove members who repeatedly violate guidelines
Respond to Commons when we reach out about a concern
How we handle violations
When we become aware of a violation — whether through a report or our own review — we may take action including warning the account, removing content, temporarily suspending access, or permanently banning an account or community. The action we take depends on the severity and frequency of the violation.

Serious violations — particularly anything involving child safety — will be acted on immediately and may be reported to relevant authorities.
Report a violation
See something that violates these guidelines? Email us at support@getcommons.app — include as much detail as you can. We take every report seriously and will follow up.
